Monogram and invitation artwork preparation

Wedding artwork is drawn for paper: a monogram on the invitation, a crest on the menu, a venue sketch on the save-the-date. Vow Keepsake Studio checks that artwork at the size it will be engraved on a sign or keepsake and prepares a version whose lines will survive the cut.

Can our wedding monogram be engraved on signs and keepsakes?

Usually, yes, after a check. Send Vow Keepsake Studio the file your stationer used, not a photo of the invitation, and tell us which parts matter most: the initials, the ampersand, the wreath around them. We report whether it engraves as drawn, needs thickening or should be redrawn, and you approve the prepared version against the original.

Why does a monogram from the invitations need redrawing?

A couple's stationer drew a monogram with two interlocking initials in a thin script, a tiny ampersand between them and a ring of fine leaves. Printed on thick cotton paper at the top of an invitation, it looks delicate and right. Engraved as the heading of a Guest Book Alternative Plaque, the hairline strokes become faint scratches and the leaves blur into a gray ring. We thicken the initials, enlarge the ampersand and redraw the leaves as fewer, bolder shapes. The couple compares the two versions side by side and approves the engraved one. The same prepared monogram then appears on the Wedding Welcome Sign at the entrance, so the invitation, the welcome and the guest plaque share one mark.

How is invitation artwork made ready for engraving?

01

Ask the stationer for the file

Whoever designed your invitations has the original vector artwork. Ask for that file and for permission to use it on engraved pieces. A screenshot of the invitation or a scan of the card is a last resort, not a starting point.

02

Decide what the mark must keep

Tell us what makes the monogram yours: the initials, their order, the ampersand style, a specific flower. Watercolor fills, gold foil and hairline flourishes drop out at engraving size, while the main shapes are kept and strengthened.

03

Approve once, use everywhere

Compare the prepared monogram with the original, stroke by stroke. Once you approve it, it stays with your order, so the welcome sign, the guest plaque and a keepsake ordered after the wedding all carry the same version.

Questions about monogram and invitation artwork preparation

Can our wedding monogram be engraved on signs and keepsakes?

Usually, yes, after a check. Send Vow Keepsake Studio the file your stationer used, not a photo of the invitation, and tell us which parts matter most: the initials, the ampersand, the wreath around them. We report whether it engraves as drawn, needs thickening or should be redrawn, and you approve the prepared version against the original.

Can a watercolor or foil monogram be engraved?

Not as it is. Engraving is one tone, so color and foil become line work. We redraw the monogram as outlines and solid shapes that hold the same proportions. If you want the color kept, the Full-Color Wedding Photo Plaque prints artwork rather than engraving it, and the two can share one layout.

Can the venue's illustration go on our signs?

Only with the venue's or the artist's permission. Many venues allow couples to use the house sketch on wedding stationery and are glad to say so in writing. Ask before sending it, because a drawing we redraw for engraving is still the artist's work and the right to use it rests with you.

Is redrawing the monogram included in the plaque estimate?

No. Redrawing is design work and is quoted on its own line. Vow Keepsake Studio first tells you whether a redraw is needed at all. A clean vector file from the stationer often engraves with only minor thickening, and in that case there may be nothing extra to pay for.

We found a monogram style online. Can you copy it?

Not copy, no, because it belongs to whoever drew it. Describe what you like about it: the way the initials link, the leaf shape, the weight of the lines. We can quote an original monogram in that spirit, which also means no other couple at the same venue will have yours.
